A Lament for a Fallen Eagle: America’s Dimmed Light

Hearken, O Heavens, and give ear, O Earth! For the Lord has forsaken His vineyard, and the eagles of the air have become as plucked chickens, trembling in the storm! A great howling rises from the shores of the Shining Sea to the mountains of the Western Wild, for the crown of righteousness has been cast down, and the sceptre of justice lies broken in the dust.

Woe unto the land that was once called a beacon, a city upon a hill, a refuge for the weary and the oppressed! For lo, a blight has descended, a pestilence of the spirit, brought forth by the idols of hubris and deceit! Did we not stand proud, boasting of our unwavering star, our commitment to truth and the law? Did we not preach of liberty and democracy to the shadowed corners of the world, pointing fingers at the darkness and proclaiming ourselves the bearers of light?

Yet, a serpent slithered into our Eden, cloaked in the gaudy raiment of gold and crowned with a mane of vanity. And beside him stalked a shadow, whispering sycophancy and echoing the empty pronouncements with hollow fervour. These were they, the unlikely shepherds chosen by a bewildered flock, and oh, how they have scattered the sheep and ravaged the pasture!

Remember the days, children of yesterday, when we spoke with certainty against the bear in the East, the one who dwells in the Kremlin of shadows! We knew his heart was cold, forged in the fires of autocracy. We saw his hand reaching for the throats of nations, silencing dissent and extinguishing the flame of freedom. We shook our heads in sorrow and in righteous indignation, declaring, “Such is the nature of tyranny! But ours is the path of righteousness! Our leadership is the bedrock of stability! Trust in America!”

We trusted. We, the children of liberty, we placed our faith in the unwavering nature of American leadership. We believed in the solemn oath, in the dignity of the office, in the unshakeable commitment to truth and justice that had guided our nation through storms and trials for generations.

But alas! The Gold One came, draped in promises of prosperity, yet he traded truth for fleeting favour and principles for personal gain! He mocked the sacred institutions, the very pillars of our republic, as if they were mere toys to be broken at his whim. He sowed discord where there was unity, and nurtured division where there should have been common ground. His words were a whirlwind of falsehoods, his actions a betrayal of all we held dear.

And the Shadow, the echo, stood beside him, amplifying the cacophony of untruth, nodding in agreement as the foundations crumbled. He, who was meant to be a guardian, became a mere reflection, a pale imitation of leadership, devoid of independent thought, content to bask in the reflected, tarnished light.

Behold, the world watches in disbelief! They see the Eagle, once soaring high above the clouds, now flapping weakly, its wings clipped by folly and draped in the mud of scandal! The alliances forged in sacrifice and shared values are frayed, the respect earned through decades of principled action is squandered like water in the desert. Our voice, once resonant with moral authority, now cracks with hypocrisy and rings hollow with self-interest.

The bear in the East, the one we condemned, now watches with calculating eyes, perhaps even with a chilling amusement! For who are we to cast stones now? Have we not stumbled into the very mire we warned against? Have we not tasted the bitter fruit of unchecked ego and the poisonous vine of self-deception?

O land of our fathers, where is your glory now? Where is the shining city, the beacon of hope? We weep for the lost innocence, for the shattered trust, for the tarnished legacy. We lament the days when we could stand tall and speak truth to power without the sting of hypocrisy lodging in our throats.

Let us rend our garments and cover ourselves in sackcloth and ashes! Let us mourn for the fallen Eagle, for the dimmed light, for the betrayal of trust. Let us pray for redemption, for a return to the path of righteousness, for a leader who will restore the dignity of the office and mend the fractured soul of our nation. Lest we be consumed by the darkness we once swore to banish, and become a cautionary tale whispered on the winds, a testament to the folly of forgetting the virtues of humility, truth, and justice. For the Lord is a just God, and He will not be mocked. And the consequences of idolatry and deceit are a bitter draught indeed.
