We often search for the divine, for meaning, for that essential spark that feels larger than our everyday selves. We look outwards – in scriptures, in nature, in grand experiences. Or we look inwards with rigid definitions – trying to find a specific feeling, a particular light, a definite answer.
But what if the spark isn’t lost, only obscured? What if the looking itself is the veil? Our conventional minds, built on logic and separation, struggle to grasp something that is us, something that permeates everything, something that is both utterly personal and universally vast.
This is where paradox becomes our guide. Paradox is the mind’s healthy confusion, a gentle unravelling of fixed assumptions. It invites us beyond the black and white, into the vibrant grey where true understanding often resides. In the space between opposites, the whispers of the divine spark can be heard.
This hypnotic meditation is not about finding something new, but about remembering what was never gone. It uses the power of paradox to loosen the grip of the analytical mind and invite you into a deeper, more intuitive awareness of the boundless essence residing within.
Find a quiet space where you won’t be disturbed. Sit or lie down comfortably. Gently close your eyes.
The Meditation Script:
(Begin with slow, deep breaths. Inhale peace, exhale tension. Allow yourself to settle.)
As you rest here now, notice the gentle rise and fall of your breath… there is nowhere you need to be, nothing you need to do… just breathing… being…
Feel the weight of your body… supported by the ground beneath you… notice the sense of gravity holding you here… and yet, feel how light your body can become with each exhale… lighter and lighter… sinking deeper… and floating free… both sinking deeply down… and floating effortlessly up… at the very same time.
Your mind may be active… thoughts coming and going… like clouds drifting across an endless sky… you don’t need to push them away… nor do you need to hold onto them… just let them be… notice the thoughts… and notice the vast, empty sky that holds them… the sky that remains still… while the clouds are constantly moving.
Breath slowing down… becoming softer… deeper… allow yourself to drift… drifting inwards… or perhaps drifting outwards into limitless space… notice how the journey inward feels like an expansion outward.
Now, allow your awareness to rest gently in the space within you… somewhere behind your eyes… in the centre of your chest… anywhere that feels like a quiet core.
As you settle in this inner space, consider this:
You are completely still… and yet, vibrating with endless energy. You are utterly alone… and yet, intimately connected to everything. You are seeking a spark… that is the seeker itself.
Feel the quiet hum of your own being… a silence that is not empty, but full. A stillness that is alive with subtle movement.
Allow yourself to be exactly as you are… imperfectly perfect… perfectly imperfect. Strongest when you allow yourself to be most vulnerable. Most found… when you are completely lost to yourself.
Feel the boundaries of your body… clear and defined… and in that very feeling, sense the limitlessness that holds those boundaries. You are here, located in this place… and yet, you are everywhere at once.
Consider that the light you seek… is found not just in moments of clarity, but hidden within the mystery of the dark. The knowing you long for… is accessed by letting go of trying to understand.
Breathe into these paradoxes… don’t try to solve them… just let them resonate… let them gently loosen any tight grip your mind has… on what you think reality should be… on what divinity must look like.
In this spaciousness… created by holding opposite truths… notice what remains… what is always here.
It may not be a bright light… it may be a quiet warmth… a subtle presence… a simple feeling of ‘is-ness’. This is the spark… it is not something you need to add… it is the essence from which you were never separate.
This spark is not powerful in a way that dominates… but in a way that simply is… unconditionally. It is the strength found in surrender. The wisdom found in not knowing. The wholeness found in embracing all your fragmented parts.
Rest in this awareness… this gentle recognition. You are the spark… the spark is you. It is utterly unique to you… and utterly universal. You are finding it… by realising it was never hidden… except by the idea that you needed to look for it.
Allow this feeling, this knowing, this pure presence… to settle deep within you. It is not something you need to achieve… but something you already are. You are perfect… exactly as you are… in this moment.
Carry this paradox with you: You are complete… and yet, always unfolding. You are the divine… expressed uniquely as you.
Now, gently begin to bring your awareness back… back to the surface… back to the room. Feel the support beneath you again… notice the sounds around you. Take a slightly deeper breath… inhaling the sense of presence you’ve cultivated. Exhaling softly… feeling more grounded… more present.
Wiggle your fingers and toes… gently stretch your body if it feels good. And in your own time… with soft, kind eyes… slowly open them.
Returning to the World, Carrying the Paradox
As you transition back into your day, carry the echoes of this meditation with you. Remember that the spark isn’t a prize to be won, but the fundamental nature of your being. It’s the stillness that allows for movement, the silence that holds all sound, the emptiness that is utterly full.
When rigid assumptions creep in – about yourself, about others, about life – gently offer them a paradoxical view. See the strength in softness, the wisdom in uncertainty, the connection in apparent separation.
The path to rediscovering your inner divinity isn’t about climbing a mountain to reach a distant peak. It’s often about dissolving the maps, loosening the ropes, and realising you are already standing on the sacred ground you were searching for. The spark is not found out there, or even in here as a separate object, but as the very fabric of your being. Embrace the glorious paradox of your own presence.
