Beyond the Satanic Cult: Satan’s Followers

When the concept of “Satan” or “Satanism” is mentioned, common imagery often conjures up secret rituals, dark symbols, and formal, clandestine cults operating outside the bounds of normal society. This narrow definition focusses on explicit worship or group affiliation. But what if the truest “followers” of ‘Satan’ aren’t found in hidden covens, but living among us, perhaps even online or in positions of power?

This article explores a thought-provoking perspective: that arguably, one doesn’t need to pledge allegiance in a formal ceremony to follow Satan. Instead, the true followers are those who embody the traits traditionally associated with the Satanic archetype – division, malice, spite, aggression, and deceit – through their actions, regardless of their stated beliefs or lack thereof.

Let’s strip away the dogma and look at the essence attributed to the figure of Satan in many narratives: the architect of discord, the purveyor of lies, the instigator of suffering, the embodiment of anti-creation. If conventional spirituality often emphasises love, unity, truth, and compassion, then the Satanic could be seen as its direct antithesis. This anti-thesis manifests not just in grand, evil schemes, but in everyday (or extraordinary) acts of divisiveness, malice, spite, aggression, and deceit.

Consider the internet troll, hiding behind anonymity to sow discord, spread spiteful lies, and revel in the aggression they provoke. They may never have read a single occult text, yet their actions perfectly embody the Satanic principle of division and malicious disruption. Think of the racist or the hate monger, driven by malice to divide humanity, using deceit and distorted narratives to justify their baseless animosity and incite aggression. Their focus is solely on creating ‘us vs. them,’ a core tenet of division.

Look further afield: Dictators who use aggression, fear, and systematic deceit to control populations; fraudsters who employ elaborate lies to cause financial ruin through spiteful disregard for others’ well-being; abusers who exert control through malicious manipulation, aggression, and emotional deceit. These individuals, regardless of their personal beliefs or lack thereof, are arguably performing the work traditionally assigned to the Satanic principle. They are actively dismantling connection, fostering mistrust, inflicting suffering, and spreading falsehoods.

The impact of these Satanic actions is tangible and devastating. Broken relationships, fractured communities, political instability, immense suffering, loss of trust. These aren’t abstract philosophical concepts; they are the concrete outcomes of lives lived according to the principles of malice and deceit. The motivation behind these actions might be complex – insecurity, fear, lust for power, trauma – but the effect aligns chillingly with the Satanic agenda: chaos, suffering, and the destruction of connection.

So, perhaps the search for “Satan’s followers” shouldn’t end in spooky basements or formal cult registries. Perhaps the more terrifying reality is that the principles of Satan are followed every day, in plain sight, by anyone who chooses to act with malice, divisiveness, spite, aggression, and deceit. This perspective challenges us to look beyond labels and rituals and examine the fruits of people’s lives. Are their actions building up or tearing down? Are they fostering connection or division? Are they promoting truth or deceit? In this light, the battle between good and evil isn’t confined to theological debates; it’s fought daily in the choices we make about how we treat each other and the world.
