Britain 1979 / 2024: Defining the Bigots

When I was a teenager, back in 1979, I worked for the department store chain called Debenhams, at the Winchester branch. It was a good job, and my colleagues were a great bunch of people. Many of them were friends. We had a lot of fun together, both at work and outside of work. But not every day at work will be remembered for good reasons. You see, back in about 1979 a nasty bunch of people calling themselves the National Front descended upon Winchester, en masse, to demonstrate against immigration and immigrants. They were met by a rival demonstration, led by the Anti-Nazi League. As a result, Winchester was largely placed on lockdown, with many businesses remaining closed and the few that opened maintained strict security, barring access to troublemakers, whilst police walked the streets in large numbers.

After deliberation at management level, Debenhams was one of the stores that opened, and I was one of the lads who was charged with manning the doors, to bar access to the hate-mongers. With my colleagues, door keys in hand, we allowed the few genuine shoppers who’d braved the streets entry, whilst locking the doors on the pockets of racist thugs who tried to get inside. I remember, as clear as yesterday, snarling thugs kicking the closed doors, venting their frustration from being denied access, to do who knows what?

The scene hasn’t changed much today. Like millions of others, I was appalled to see hateful men and women rioting in large numbers across the UK. Two nights ago, for example, I watched on live television, as hordes of morally repugnant louts rampaged around Plymouth, motivated by hate.

Many of those involved claimed to be acting against Islamist violence (hence their moronic attacks on Mosques and innocent Muslims). Islamism is a real problem too, of course. We witness the bloody crimes of the Islamist extremists on a daily basis, around the world. But the rioters’ attempt at blaming an Islamist migrant for their own despicable actions against Muslims and other innocents was not only unjustifiable, it was not really plausible either (but bigots don’t care too much about truth, or facts). The individual who was recently charged with killing several innocent children at a dancing class, which actions sparked this disorder, was not, as was first claimed by the hate-mongers, a violent Muslim asylum seeker at all, he was born in Cardiff, Wales, we’re told. We all condemn the terrible crime for which he’s been charged. What’s more, we all condemn the crimes of the Islamists, too.

Racism has a long and unpleasant history in Britain, just as it does in many nations around the world (white, black and brown: bigotry is a human problem, not limited to skin colour). You see, when I was tasked to guard the doors of Debenhams in about 1979 from the racist National Front protesters, the issue of Islamism did not exist. This was racism pure and simple, just as it is today. The current wave of hatred has been boiling for a while, as anyone with an ounce of common sense can attest.

At about the time of the National Front gathering (1979), I remember being invited to a party at a home located on Winchester Golf Club (I think it was held by the son of the caretaker, who lived in the house, whose parents were away at the time). I was with a friendly Sikh guy, called J.C., and his sister (whose name escapes me now, as I only met her once, briefly, on this occasion). Anyway, as we were sat around a kitchen table talking, with other friends, one of whom was affectionately known as ‘Boo Boo’, suddenly we were confronted by racist hate. A young man entered the room called Bamber (also known as ‘the Mad Bamber’), and as soon as he saw J.C. and his sister his eyes filled with hate, and he began asking things like ‘What are those f****** P**** doing here?’. He had to be calmed down by the rest of the group, but the situation remained tense.

As you look at the news coverage on TV and in the media now, you can see examples of ‘the Mad Bamber’ in the contorted faces of the racist thugs who are rioting across the UK. Don’t let anyone try to fool you, this isn’t all about Islamism, or immigration, it’s really about racism. Let’s at least define the problem accurately, for the bigotry it is. We all deplore the senseless killing of the little girls and we all condemn the Islamist terrorists too, but attacking innocent people, based on the colour of their skin, stamping on a 50-year old man’s head, smashing up hotels in which asylum seekers have sought protection, pulling Hijabs off of young defenceless women, committing arson, rioting, looting, throwing rocks at innocent people, attacking the police and police horses is not the answer. The hateful thugs who have committed these acts are just as bad as the nasty Islamists. But we must remember, their kind has been doing this, since long before the problem of Islamism existed here. Why? Because they’re nasty racists: just like the vile National Front protesters who kicked the closed door of Debenhams, and ‘the Mad Bamber’, who reacted with hate, towards a friendly Sikh guy and his sister.

These racist thugs, currently act with impunity, due to the diluted so-called ‘justice’ system that exists in Britain today, where those convicted of terrible crimes, receiving ‘life’ sentences are sometimes released, after just a few years. There is not much of a deterrent against violence in Britain, these days. However, what these thuggish fools fail to recognise, just as did the the person who killed the poor young children, is that they will all one day, when they depart this life, have to give account of themselves before Celestial Judges, as many accounts of Near Death Experiences (NDEs) reveal. You see, it seems that many souls don’t make it to Heaven, many end up in nasty, Purgatory-like places instead (see the book Testimony of Light, for example). No one ever really ‘gets away with it’. What’s more, research from past life studies indicates that what a person sows, they will reap, if not in a current life, in a life that follows. Quite probably, many of these bigoted people will find themselves, in this life, later, or in another future life, in comparable situations to the ones they’ve caused.

As I observe the racist riots in Britain, I’ll be remembering 1979. I can’t be fooled by the racists’ narrative. I can see them for what they are. They were kicking the doors of Debenhams in 1979 and ‘the Mad Bamber’ was insulting J.C. and his sister, based on the colour of their skin alone, decades ago. They are hate-mongers, and they will use any explanation to hurt innocent people, with darker skin than their own. They’re just racists. Don’t let them tell you otherwise.

As an afterthought, consider this: when I was at school, there was one young black boy in my class, called Robert. One day, our Woodwork teacher, Mr Soloway, looked at him and smiled, saying: ‘If we turned the lights off, all we would see is your white teeth’. Poor Robert smiled sheepishly in response.

By the way, a YouGov survey shows that the violent racist rioters do not have public support: https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/50257-the-public-reaction-to-the-2024-riots

Postscript: since writing this article earlier today, the first of many of the thugs involved in the riots have received swift prison sentences. Hundreds more face the same fate. Good riddance! I trust the individual responsible for killing the young children will also face appropriate justice, swiftly.
