Dr Bradford Keeney’s Shamanic Research

Dr. Bradford Keeney is a renowned therapist, author, and teacher who has dedicated his life to the study and practice of psychotherapy. He’s known for his unique approach to therapy, which combines traditional methods with indigenous shamanic healing practices from around the world. I corresponded with him in the past, after reading his excellent book, ‘Bushman Shaman’. I found him to be friendly, kind and considerate. His work has had a profound impact on the field of psychotherapy, and he continues to inspire and educate therapists and clients alike.

Dr. Keeney’s interest in indigenous healing practices began during his time at the Menninger Foundation, where he was exposed to the work of renowned anthropologist Gregory Bateson. Bateson’s research on the healing practices of the Balinese people had a profound impact on Dr. Keeney and sparked his interest in exploring the healing traditions of other cultures.

After completing his post-doctoral training, Dr. Keeney travelled extensively, studying and learning from indigenous healers in Africa, Asia, and South America. He also spent time living with the Kalahari Bushmen in Africa, where he learned their healing practices and rituals. These experiences greatly influenced his approach to therapy and led him to develop his unique style of therapy, known as ‘resource-focused therapy.’

Resource-focused therapy is based on the belief that every individual has the inner resources to heal themselves. Dr. Keeney’s approach focusses on helping clients tap into these resources and use them to overcome their challenges and achieve their goals. He also incorporates elements of play, humor, and spontaneity into his therapy sessions, creating a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore their inner selves.

In addition to his work as a therapist, Dr. Keeney is also a prolific writer and has authored over 20 books on various topics related to psychotherapy, indigenous healing practices, and spirituality. His books have been translated into multiple languages and have been widely acclaimed by both professionals and the general public.

Dr. Keeney is also a sought-after speaker and has presented at numerous conferences and workshops around the world. He is known for his engaging and dynamic style of teaching, and his workshops are often described as transformative experiences by those who attend them.

Today, Dr. Keeney continues to teach, write, and work with clients at his private practice. He also serves as the Director of the Keeney Institute for Healing, which offers training and certification programs for therapists in resource-focused therapy.

Dr. Bradford Keeney is a pioneer in the field of psychotherapy, whose work has had a profound impact on the way we understand and practice therapy. His unique approach, which combines traditional methods with indigenous healing practices, has helped countless individuals find healing and transformation. Through his teachings, writings, and workshops, he continues to inspire and guide therapists and clients on their journey towards healing and self-discovery.
