Someday Isle

On the secluded shores of Someday Isle, resided an individual named Evermore, whose life was consumed by a perpetual cycle of procrastination and self-denial. The island’s enchanting name had become a cruel irony, for Evermore’s existence was defined by an elusive ‘someday’ that never seemed to arrive.

Day after day, Evermore would embark on a myriad of activities, each promising a glimmer of fulfilment. Yet, as the sun began its descent, a familiar refrain would echo through their mind: ‘Someday I’ll be happier.’ The weight of this perpetual deferral crushed their spirit, leaving them feeling perpetually dissatisfied and unfulfilled.

They longed to experience the joys of life without reservation: to savour the sweetness of a ripe mango, to dance beneath a starlit sky, or to simply bask in the warmth of human connection. But time and again, they would convince themselves that these pleasures could wait for a more convenient ‘someday.’

Their friends and family, weary of witnessing Evermore’s self-imposed misery, gently nudged them to embrace the present. ‘Don’t let life pass you by,’ they would implore. ‘Someday may never come.’ Yet, Evermore’s heart remained stubbornly anchored in the future, unable to break free from the shackles of their own expectations, which were locked in place by the sad hypnotic refrain, ‘Someday I’ll…’.

As the years turned into decades, Evermore’s island became a lonely, desolate place. The once-vibrant hues of life had faded into a dull grayness, reflecting the emptiness that consumed their soul. The promise of ‘someday’ had become a hollow echo, haunting their every waking moment.

One fateful evening, as Evermore sat alone on the windswept beach, a realisation washed over them. They had spent their entire life waiting for a future that never arrived. The present, which they had so carelessly dismissed, had slipped through their fingers like grains of sand.

With a newfound determination, Evermore vowed to break free from the chains of ‘someday.’ They resolved to seize each moment as if it were their last, to find joy in the simple pleasures of life, and to connect with the world around them.

And so, Evermore embarked on a journey of transformation. They savoured every sip of their morning coffee, reveled in the beauty of a blooming flower, and made a conscious effort to nurture their relationships. The burden of ‘someday’ gradually lifted from their shoulders, replaced by a sense of gratitude and contentment.

As the sun began to set on Someday Isle, Evermore stood on the beach, a smile etched upon their face. They had finally found happiness, not in some distant ‘someday,’ but in the present moment. And as the stars twinkled above, they whispered a silent vow to themselves: never again would they let their life be defined by the elusive promise of ‘someday.’
