‘Quick Lieutenant, Heaven is sending another synchronicity in Anwen’s direction, but a Demon of Doubt is about to intercept it’. ‘That’s okay Sterk, I’m on it!’ With these words the Star-Spangled Super Soldier threw his fabled indestructible shield made of the mysterious metal Remainium in the direction of the grotesque, slavering demon, knocking it off course. His intervention allowed the Heaven-sent synchronicity of the meaningful timing of the appearance of a floating white feather that drifted in front of Anwen from ‘who knows where?’, at the exact moment she sensed a divine angelic presence in her mind, to be recognised by her, as she sat deep in thought, on a wooden bench in a local park at dusk, oblivious to the battle that raged around her. And as her long black hair moved ever so slightly across her face due to a gust of wind, that may have been caused by an interdimensional flying shield, Anwen pulled her brown corduroy coat around her, as she sensed a developing awareness within. Fortunately, the special timing of the synchronicity of the appearance of the white feather had helped Anwen in the process of her spiritual awakening, by encouraging her to trust the reality of the Divine Presence that was manifesting in her life. Sadly, whenever someone begins to awaken to the Divine Presence, Demons of Doubt will try hard to knock them off course and send them back to sleep.
‘Damn! Good shot Lieutenant!’, the red and gold ultra-high-tech-armour clad Revenger shouted in response to Lieutenant America’s skilful interception. ‘Mind your language, Sterk’, the scrupulously well-mannered superhero spontaneously replied.
Chuckling to himself Steel-Man, stood firm as he fired a twin barrage of repeller rays at the two Demons of Doubt who were rapidly in support of the one which had just been walloped by Lieutenant America. ‘That takes care of you! Better watch out, Demons of Doubt, because now Steel-Man is here, Anwen need not fear.’
Taking aim with one of his electro-pulse arrows Clint Harton, the Revenger also known as Eagle-Eye, said in a friendly mocking tone ‘Now Sterk’s a poet, but he just doesn’t know it!’, as his arrow hit the remaining Demon of Doubt square between the eyes.
‘Okay Red, they’re all yours!’, Lieutenant said, and with that the Red Witch waved her arms rhythmically in the air, summoning up the energy of a powerful hex, which cast the now subdued demons instantly back to Hades.
‘How are you getting on Taranis, with Brute and The Apparition?’, the Star-Spangled Revenger asked his fellow heroes, using the comms link they shared. ‘Verily, ’tis great sport vanquishing these demons’, Taranis replied, adding ‘I have conquered one more than Apparition and Brute, which fills my heart with great merriment. You know Lieutenant, this proves that I am indeed mighty!’, the thunder god laughed as The Apparition gave him a look of disdain and the Green Ogre snarled menacingly in the direction of his team mate.
‘Lieutenant, Kasparov here’, the Black Spider said from the cockpit of the Winjet she piloted nearby. ‘What is it, Spider?, Lieutenant asked. ‘Professor Zavier has received another telepathic message from Heaven for us’, the Spider replied. Zavier, the world’s most powerful telepath and leader of the Uncanny Z-Men was assisting the Revengers by conveying messages directly from Heaven to them as they worked together to help Anwen in the process of her spiritual awakening. ‘It seems the Demons are sending all they’ve got to stop this one from awakening’, the Black Spider explained. ‘Why?’, asked the Lieutenant. ‘Because she has the potential to work directly with Heaven, helping other people to come to the knowledge of the Divine Presence too. What’s more, she’s very psychic.’ ‘I see’, Stan Rogers replied. ‘That explains their numbers and their persistence’.
Demons of Doubt had been targeting Anwen for some while, trying to cause her to doubt her sense of the Divine Presence that she’d begun to notice in her life, to doubt her developing spiritual experiences and to doubt the synchronicities that Heaven was sending in her direction, to catch her attention in order to help her to embrace her destiny. She was a Light Worker in the making – and they wanted to stop her awakening at all costs.
Anwen lived in a parallel dimension to Earth’s Greatest Heroes, which occupied the same space as her earth but on a different vibrational level, so the battle between the Demons of Doubt and her Revenger protectors was occurring outside of her perceptual awareness. They could all see her, but she couldn’t see them. Such are the vagaries of interdimensional spacetime. You see, Anwen was on the verge of awakening to the Divine Presence and of quickly becoming a powerful Light Worker, blessed with the gift of second sight, who would lead many others to Ascension and to a close relationship with Heaven. In the meantime though, as the battle raged around her, she was almost oblivious to what was occurring, except for noticing a persistent impression that something wasn’t quite right. It felt like she was on the verge of something big, but that she was being blocked from fully understanding what it was.
Whilst all-powerful in the Heavenly Realms, in contrast, on Anwen’s earth, the power of the Divine was reduced in the physical realm, hence the ongoing battle between Light and Dark, through the course of human history. As a result, in order to provide Anwen with the support she needed in the process of her awakening, her Heavenly protectors had telepathically contacted Charles Zavier for assistance, who had in turn enlisted the Mighty Revengers to help aid Anwen.
The full moon was fast approaching. With the help of the Revengers, Heaven had already managed to send Anwen a number of signs of the Divine Presence in her life, using the phenomenon of synchronicity. On the night of the full moon Heaven planned to bless Anwen with a complete awakening and full awareness of the Divine Presence. In this moment she would come into her full power and become a champion of The Light, someone who could act as a conduit for goodness in the physical world in a way that the Divine Presence could not do alone, due to the limitations that exist for the Powers of Heaven, on earth. This was her destiny. A destiny that the forces of darkness were trying hard to block. In turn, Zavier telepathically conveyed this knowledge to all the assembled Revengers, so that they would fully understand the importance of their mission.
As the sun began to fall over the horizon the silvery light of the moon began to bathe the earth in a soft glow. Correspondingly, whilst sat in meditation once again beside the silver birch tree, Anwen sensed the Divine Presence beginning to overshadow her, whilst simultaneously a horde of Demons of Doubt charged in her direction.
On cue, guided by Zavier, led by Lieutenant America as he leapt from the Winjet, the Revengers formed a human shield around Anwen. Due to the interdimensional quirk, she continued to remain largely oblivious to what was going on around her.
‘No one moves until I give the word’, Lieutenant America said. ‘Hmpf!’ The Brute huffed, before leaping in the direction of the biggest group of demons, with a look of glee in his eyes, as he simultaneously shouted ‘Brute smash!’. And as Tanner’s alter ego broke ranks with his colleagues, battle commenced in earnest.
The Spider with her stingers took out demons in one direction. Lieutenant took out more with his shield in another. The Apparition and Sterk combined used their energy rays to sweep widely around, blasting demons in all directions as the thunder god called forth lightning from the heavens with his magic hammer to smite yet more of them. Those who managed to elude this onslaught were picked off quickly by Harton’s arrows, fired with his eagle-eyed aim.
As the battle raged around her, Anwen sensed within her heart a developing awareness of the Divine Presence blending with her, and with this awareness came an overwhelming understanding that she’d been born with a Life Purpose, which she was destined to fulfil. And in this pivotal moment she entered into Spiritual Union with the Divine Presence!
Her psychic awareness magnified. The Divine energy filled her soul. She was now a fully awakened Light Worker and in this sacred moment the Demons of Doubt lost any power they may have once had over her.
Instantly the remaining demons not yet despatched by the Red Witch, due to their loss of power over Anwen, caused by the surge in her magnified spiritual strength, which had manifested due to her now indestructible link with Heaven, found themselves cast back to Hades, never again to bother Anwen. Now and forever, she had divine power over them. And, in turn, Heaven now had another champion in the world, in the form of Anwen.
Her destiny was now assured.
‘Hmpf!’ Said the Brute in an irritated tone. ‘Where go demons!? Brute want to smash more’. ‘I’m damn pleased they’re gone’, said the Black Spider in reply. ‘Language!!’, Steel-Man interjected in a mocking tone as Lieutenant America said ‘You’re not going to let me forget that are you?’. With that the assembled Revengers all laughed together. The Demons were vanquished. Anwen was awakened and all was well with her world.
And Anwen? She became a gifted channeller and a renowned spiritual teacher as was her destiny, leading many people into full awareness of the Divine Presence before she herself finally ascended into the heavenly realms, where she enjoyed eternal life and wonders that are beyond imagination. A choir of angels sang a song in celebration of her Ascension and afterwards one said he was ‘damn happy!’ that she’d ascended successfully. In response, far far away, across the spacetime continuum a Star-Spangled superhero could be heard to say ‘Language!’.

This short story is not an official Marvel story. It’s my way of combining my love of Marvel Comics characters, which I’ve followed for about the last 55 years, since I was a little boy in the 1960s and this, in my view, important message, about spiritual development.
