The Perils Of Sorcery

From time to time I encounter people who have, unwisely, dabbled with sorcery. It’s been said by some that magic is ‘just a form of energy, neither good nor bad’, much like electricity is neither good nor bad, adding that …’the way electricity, or magic, is used depends upon the intentions of the user, not upon the magic, or the electricity’. This concept may be partially accurate, since the use of magic involves working with energy, but where this hypothesis fails is the fact that it misses the point that the energies to which practitioners of, what I shall call White Magic (to distinguish the practice from sorcery) appeal, are fundamentally different in character to those upon which the practitioners of the dark arts draw. White Magicians and White Witches seek the assistance of benevolent spirits, when practising White Magic, for positive intentions, whereas the sorcerer appeals to nefarious entities and dark energies, to achieve their selfish aims.

We know that sorcery has been a part of human history for centuries. We recognise too, that sorcerers use supernatural powers to manipulate or influence people, events, or the natural world, for personal advantage. While some unwise individuals may see it as a harmless form of ‘entertainment’ or a way to tap into one’s ‘alternative spiritual identity’, the reality is that sorcery can have dangerous consequences.

One of the most significant perils of sorcery is the harm it can cause to those who practice it. Many people are drawn to sorcery because of the promise of power and control over their lives and the lives of others. However, this pursuit of power often comes at a high price. Sorcery often involves making deals with dark forces or summoning negative spirits, which can have severe consequences for the practitioner. These beings may demand sacrifices, both physical and spiritual, in exchange for their services. In some cases, the practitioner may even become possessed by these malevolent entities, resulting in mental and emotional instability.

Additionally, the use of sorcery can also have a negative impact on the practitioner’s mental health. The constant pursuit of power and control through sorcery can lead to an unhealthy obsession and a distorted sense of reality. This can result in delusions, paranoia, and in extreme cases, psychosis.

Another danger of sorcery is the risk of backlash from the spirits or entities being summoned. In many cultures, it’s believed that sorcery involves making deals with malevolent forces that can turn against the practitioner if they fail to uphold their end of the bargain. This can result in curses, hexes, and other forms of spiritual attacks that can have devastating consequences for the practitioner.

Furthermore, the practice of sorcery often involves manipulating the free will of others. This can have serious ethical implications and can lead to negative karma for the practitioner.

In some cases, the dangers of sorcery can extend beyond the practitioner and affect their loved ones as well. The use of dark forces and entities can create a negative energy in the practitioner’s environment, leading to disturbances, accidents, and even illness among those around them.

The practice of sorcery may seem alluring and powerful, but the dangers it poses to the practitioner cannot be ignored. The use of dark forces and manipulation of free will can have serious consequences, both physically and mentally. Ultimately, the pursuit of power through sorcery may bring temporary gratification, but the long-term effects can be devastating. It is therefore important to think twice before delving into the dangerous world of sorcery.
