Zandibibaba: A Young Prophet Follows His Calling

Here’s a short inspiring story set in ancient times, about a young boy called Zandibibaba, who followed his divine calling.

Once upon a time there was a young boy called Zandibibaba, who lived an ordinary life in a remote village. Unknown to him though, his destiny lay in the hands of the goddess Ishtar. One fateful night, as Zandibibaba lay sleeping, the goddess appeared to him in a radiant vision. With a voice as sweet as honey, Ishtar spoke, ‘Zandibibaba, I have chosen you to be my prophet. You will carry my message to the people and guide them towards kindness.’

Zandibibaba was stunned. He was but a humble shepherd, unworthy of such a sacred task. Filled with trepidation, he asked, ‘Why me, oh goddess? I am not learned or wise.’ Ishtar smiled gently. ‘You have a pure heart, Zandibibaba. That is all that is required. Trust in my guidance, and you will fulfil your destiny.’ With a trembling voice, Zandibibaba accepted his calling.

Guided by Ishtar’s divine wisdom, Zandibibaba embarked on his mission. He preached the goddess’s teachings, calling on the people to abandon their selfish ways and embrace kindness. Zandibibaba’s words resonated with most people. Many flocked to hear his sermons, inspired by his unwavering faith and the profound truths he shared. Villages that were once plagued by strife and darkness transformed into beacons of hope and prosperity.

However, Zandibibaba’s path was not without its challenges. Those who clung to their old beliefs resisted his message, fearing that it would disrupt their way of life. They plotted against him, seeking to silence his voice forever. Yet, Zandibibaba remained steadfast in the face of adversity. Protected by Ishtar’s divine favour, he persevered, his faith unwavering. Over time, he noticed that the troublemakers became less vocal as some changed their ways, whilst others moved away, and some passed away.

Happily, as the years went by, Zandibibaba was inspired to observe that slowly, but surely, because more and more people were choosing to follow Ishtar’s guidance, as presented through him, Her Messenger, that his village, along with other nearby villages, were all becoming happier, more peaceful and prosperous places to live.
