The Devil’s Advocate: Why Hoping for a Malevolent Force is a Beacon of Hope

As we sit in awe, watching documentaries on prehistoric dinosaurs, the gruesome reality of a world ravaged by violence and suffering for hundreds of millions of years unfolds before our eyes. The relentless cycle of predation, where mighty carnivores devour their herbivorous counterparts, is a haunting reminder that our world has always been a realm of struggle and pain. This brutal narrative continues to play out in the present, as we witness the prevalence of debilitating diseases, heinous acts of violence, and the capricious forces of nature that wreak havoc on human lives.

In the face of such unrelenting suffering, the notion of a monotheistic Creator raises more questions than it answers. If a benevolent God exists, why has our world been plagued by such malevolence for so long? The sheer scale of pain and injustice seems to contradict the idea of an all-powerful, all-loving deity. Instead, it suggests a creator that is, at best, ambivalent to our suffering, or, at worst, cruel. The implications are too terrible to contemplate: that we are trapped in a creation governed by a tyrannical ruler who delights in our misery.

This is where the existence of the Devil comes in – a concept that, surprisingly, offers a glimmer of hope. If we attribute the suffering in our world to a malevolent force, rather than a benevolent God, we can begin to make sense of the chaos that surrounds us. The faith of Dualism, a form of Gnosticism, posits that two opposing forces are at work in our universe: good and evil. According to this worldview, the forces of evil have corrupted creation, entrapping us in a realm of suffering, while the forces of good strive to liberate us.

The evidence from near-death experiences, mediumship, and Shamanism suggests that there are indeed beings of love and light, guiding us towards heavenly realms that await us beyond the veil of death. These testimonies offer a tantalising glimpse into a world beyond our own, where love and compassion reign supreme. In contrast to the predatory, painful, and unfair nature of our physical world, these heavenly realms seem like a haven, a refuge from the storm.

The existence of the Devil, or an evil force, provides a plausible explanation for the state of our world. It suggests that our suffering is not the result of a benevolent God’s design, but rather the consequence of a malevolent force that has been known by many names throughout history. This perspective is not only more palatable but also offers a sense of liberation. If we can attribute our suffering to a force that is antithetical to the divine, we can begin to see that our world is not the creation of a cruel God, but rather a realm that has been spoiled by a malevolent entity.

In the face of such an existential choice, it’s clear that hoping for the existence of the Devil is not a nihilistic or despairing act, but rather a beacon of hope. It’s a declaration that we refuse to accept that our suffering is the result of a divine plan. Instead, we choose to believe that there is a force of good that can counterbalance the evil that surrounds us. The Gnostics, Dualists, near-death experience researchers, mediums, and Shamans have revealed to us the existence of loving spirit beings who want only the best for us. In their testimonies, we find a message of hope, a reminder that we are not alone in our struggles, and that there is a world beyond our own where love and compassion reign.

So, let us hope that the Devil exists, for if we don’t, we are left with the terrifying prospect of a God who is responsible for the awful state of our world. In contrast, the existence of a malevolent force offers us a glimmer of hope, a chance to believe that our suffering is not the result of a divine design, but rather a consequence of a force that can be overcome. As we navigate the complexities of our existence, let us hold on to this hope, and may it guide us towards a brighter, more compassionate future.
