In recent weeks 3,636 people have been killed by US-Israeli strikes on Iran, with 254 children counted amongst this number. If this was not enough of a tragedy, reports from Iran reveal that the Iranian regime is intentionally seeking to bring children into the firing line.
The BBC reports: “The government has appealed to parents to allow their children join the Basij volunteer militia – a key arm of state enforcement – to help guard checkpoints.”
As a result of these combined pressures, human rights organisations are raising concerns at the rising levels of anxiety and hyper arousal amongst children, which is a key marker in the onset of PTSD.
How cold and callous must Trump, Netanyahu and the Iranian regime be to continue to inflict such a heavy cost on such vulnerable innocents, who are least able to bear it.
